Around Exeter 5019
Exeter is a mainly residential suburb on the Lefevre Peninsula, about 14 km north-west of the Adelaide city centre, in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Exmouth Road marks its southern edge and Hargrave Street its northern edge, with Woolnough Road on the west and the Outer Harbor railway line on the east. There's little commercial activity inside the suburb itself, as most of the shops are over the river in Port Adelaide.
The name comes from Exeter in Devon, the home town of early landowner John Lapthorne, although it didn't appear on official documents until 1882. One of the oldest landmarks is the Lord Exmouth Hotel on Exmouth Road, whose first licensee, William Knapman, took over in 1859. On Semaphore Road, the heritage-listed Exeter Hotel is the other pub locals know. A house in Denman Street carries a blue plaque marking its listing on the South Australian Heritage Register as a former co-operative society store.
For a century, from 1878 to 1978, trains ran down the middle of Semaphore Road to Semaphore, stopping at Exeter station near Swan Terrace and Woolnough Road. The wide median strip you drive along today is what's left of that line. Peterhead station sits on Exeter's eastern edge, and Glanville station on Causeway Road is just beyond it.
The 2021 Census counted 1,066 residents and 571 private dwellings in Exeter, with a median age of 48 and an average of 1.5 motor vehicles per dwelling.

Pickup notes for Exeter
Before Dan heads over, these details make the visit run smoothly:
- On Semaphore Road itself? Let us know which side of the median the car is on, so we can approach from the right direction.
- Older cottage with a side gate? Tell us how wide the gap is, or send a photo, and we'll judge whether the car can come out that way.
- Parked in a unit block's shared car park? Point out the space number and any visitor bays nearby.
- Won't start, no keys or tyres gone flat? The winch still gets it onto the tray.
- Clearing out a parent's place? Tell us if the owner can't be there, and we'll sort out who signs on the day.
How it works
- Text us the details. Send the make, model, rough condition and a few photos to 0499 291 717, or use the quote form on this page.
- Hear our offer. Prices run from $200 to $2,000, depending on the vehicle.
- Book a time. Any weekday between 8am and 4pm.
- Hand over the keys. Dan arrives with the tilt tray, pays you, and winches the car aboard.
Written off in a crash? We'll still put a price on it
Payment and the MR96
Choose cash or an instant PayID bank transfer, and you'll have the money before the car is lifted. There's no charge for the tow, so the price we agree is the amount you get.
The MR96 notice of disposal comes with Dan. He'll help you fill it in at the handover, so you're not left chasing the form later.
Exeter FAQs
Exeter and Semaphore share a postcode. Do you cover both?
Yes. Every street in 5019 gets the same free pickup, whether you're in Exeter, Semaphore or the blocks in between.
Will you take a car that's been written off?
Yes. Crash-damaged and written-off cars are fine. Send photos of the damage from a few angles and we'll make an offer.
Can you collect from a narrow street with parked cars on both sides?
Usually, yes. Tell us the street and roughly where the car is parked, and we'll pick a time of day when there's room to pull up safely and use the winch.
What's the quickest way to get a price?
Text photos to 0499 291 717 or fill in the online quote form, and we'll come back with a number between $200 and $2,000.
Which days can you come?
Monday to Friday, between 8am and 4pm. Text us your preferred day and we'll lock in a time.
